Theatre of the Beat’s vision (http://www.theatreofthebeat.com/html) is the “create meaningful theatre that both challenges and inspires.” The Ontario-based troupe has created a repertoire of plays that both pricks the audience’s social consciousness and encourages them to build a more whole world, explaines Theatre of the Beat artistic director Johnny Wideman.

Arts Connection for Monday, February 10, 2014 - Bev Foster - David Festival

Six years ago a group in Port Perry wanted to create a festival that encouraged, enabled and equipped churches in the Scugog area to glorify God through music and the arts. The David Festival (http://davidfestival.ca/) has since has expanded each year in both the workshops it presents and the numbers of people coming from outside the Scugog area. Bev Foster, a musician, Port Perry resident and one of the festival’s organizers talks about the David Festival.

Tonight’s guest, is a 17-year-old guitar virtuoso. But that should surprise anyone who knows that Zac Tiessen (http://www.zactiessen.com/) and his brother Josh, a wildlife artist who’s been tutored by Robert Bateman, were part of a study of an elite group of 24 prodigies being studied worldwide. Zac recently released his first CD, Courage, which features four songs that are a mix of jazz, heavy metal and fusion.

One of C.S. Lewis’ first published works was a collection of poetry published under the pen name of Clive Hamilton. Lewis, who died the same day as John F. Kennedy—November 22,1963—and both his poetry and prose, have been significant influences for tonight’s guest, poet D.S. Martin (http://dsmartin.ca/ and http://kingdompoets.blogspot.ca/), whose latest collection of poems, Conspiracy of Light, pays homage to that influence.

Last year rock vocalist and three-time JUNO nominee Chris Greenwood, who performs as Manafest (http://www.manafest.ca/), released The Fighter CD. Recently the Pickering, Ontario native wrote his first book, also titled The Fighter, which is the story of how he conquered his own fears and found success.
