Arts Connection for September 16, 2013 - Derrick Drover- new CD project

Tonight’s guest began performing live at the age of 12 and played his first arena show on his 15th birthday. A worship leader who “doesn’t sound like a carbon copy of anyone else” and combines elements of rock and folk in his worship songs, Derrick Drover (http://www.derrickdrover.com) is both a worship leader and an ordained minister who lives in Aylmer, Ontario. Derrick’s currently working on his third CD and talks about music, recording and ministry.

Arts Connection for September 9, 2013 - Wilson & MacQueen - new CD, worship music

The idea for Wilson & MacQueen (http://www.wilsonandmacqueen.com) came up a couple of years ago as Kris MacQueen and Adrian Wilson, along with their wives, spent an evening together enjoying food, drink and guitars. As they say on their website “as we listened to one another’s stuff, we realized that our songs really went together well.” Wilson & MacQueen released their first CD this past spring and we spent time talking to them about getting together, writing together and performing together.

Arts Connection for August 22, 2013 - Brian Walsh - "Kicking at the Darkness: Bruce Cockburn and the Christian Imagination"

Singer/songwriter Bruce Cockburn’s 40-year music career has touched many—those who listen to his music and those who have been influenced by it in their own careers, such as Steve Bell, Allie Matthews and Glen Soderholm. As well as being well-crafted, Cockburn’s music has exuded a spirituality which has been both clear and ambiguous at the same time. Brian J. Walsh, a chaplain and adjunct professor of theology of culture at Toronto’s Wycliffe College, about this in his book Kicking at the Darkness: Bruce Cockburn and the Christian Imagination.

Singer/songwriter Jon Bauer (http://www.jonbauermusic.com/) has chalked up 30 Covenant Award nominations and five wins including the 2012 Worship Album of the Year, one Independent Music Award and a Juno nomination. While the accolades are welcome, Jon’s “heart is to encourage people that worship is more than music. It’s a lifestyle, and it’s a choice.” His newest CD Roots of Worship is a collection of songs from his 18 years of leading worship in 15 countries on 5 continents.
