Arts Connection for July 12, 2012 - Deb Elkink - "The Third Grace, " Grace Irwin Award winner

Deb Elkink (http://www.debelkink.com) had her first work published in her grade-school yearbook: it was a letter she wrote from the viewpoint of John F. Kennedy in heaven—just after his assassination. Her most recent work—her first novel titled The Third Grace—recently won the Grace Irwin Award—a $5,000.00 award, which is Canada's largest literary award for writers who are Christian.

Tonight’s guest likes writing mysteries because, as she says on her website, “right always wins. No matter how bad the crime, the bad guy eventually gets caught—at least in my mysteries.” And, in Jayne Self’s (http://www.jayneself.com) first book, Murder in Hum Harbour, the bad guy does get caught, but not without a lot of misunderstanding humour, romance and a misguided hero who almost misses out on who done it.

Humans are story-telling animals says the introduction to a course being taught by Brian J. Walsh, an adjunct professor of theology of culture at Wycliffe College in Toronto and Sherry Coman, professor of film and new media at Humber College, at the Trinity College this summer. The course—Film, Prophecy and Culture (http://www.imago-arts.on.ca/index.htm)—which coincides with the Toronto International Film Festival will help students develop a biblically theological understanding of contemporary film.

This fall a new play will hit the stage at the Queensway Centre for the Arts. The Role Model is a fantasy-drama centres on a business tycoon who has everything—but a seemingly insignificant choice changes everything…or so it seems. Susan Acheson is founding owner and managing artistic director of August Productions (http://www.augustproductions.org), which is producing the play.

Arts Connection for May 17, 2012 - Arlen Salte - Break Forth Canada

On May 1, 1977, Arlen Salte, fellow musician Dean Hedlund and soundman Neil Goetz held a concert that proved to be the beginning of what is now a 35-year-old ministry. With more than 250,000 albums sold, Arlen'ss the top-selling solo artist in Canadian Christian recording history and, in 2010 was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award by GMA Canada. One of the pioneers in Canadian Christian music, Arlen has, through New Creation Ministries and its annual Break Forth Canada concerts, encouraged other musicians and artists in their ministries.

Arts Connection for Thursday, May 10 - Brad Dugas - Recording egineer and producer

Long before a CD hits the airwaves or your CD player, musicians need to step into a studio and record the music. Brad Dugas is an integral part of that recording process as a recording engineer and producer. He was also one of the judges at the May 12 finals for Faith FM’s Shining Star Christian vocal talent search.
