Guelph’s Audience of One Christian Theatre Company is, in theatre talk, treading the boards again this month. The company’s fourth production, The Dream, takes a look at the Easter story from the perspective of Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor of Judea who reluctantly sentenced Jesus to be crucified.
Tonight’s guests have been working on a project that “has been slowly simmering for years.” Released last year the two-part I Will Not be Shaken compilation features a CD with all of Steve Bell’s songs based on the Psalms and a book co-written by Bell and friend and pastor Jamie Howiso
Veteran writer Dorene Meyer launched Goldrock Press to help give a voice to First Nations Christian writers. The publisher recently launched the first volume of an anthology of essays, poems and stories by 16 First Nations writers ranging in age from 16 to 79 and Dorene is on the phone from her home office in Norway House, Manitoba to talk about the book.
As part of their final year the most committed of Redeemer University College’s art students take part in an exhibit. This year’s features five students who, along with their professor, Phil Irish (to the right in the photo), are hoping to present their work off-campus during one of Hamilton’s Art Crawl events. Faye Hall (http://fayehall.com/) began working as the administrative assistant for Winnipeg singer/songwriter Steve Bell and through exposure to various art forms re-awakened her love of painting, which she shows in her recently-published book ART begets ART.
In time for Christmas, the fourth anthology in the Hot Apple Cider series hit store shelves with a selection of fiction and non-fiction stories and poems. Writers from across the country contributed to Hot Apple Cider with Cinnamon: Stories of Finding Love in Unexpected Places and on the phone with us tonight is co-publisher and contributor Les. Lindquist to talk about the book.
Whether it’s going to speak at a writers’ conference or spend some time on the mission field, author Marcia Laycock has spent a lot of her life travelling.
Growing up, talking about difficult issues was encouraged in the household of tonight’s guest. That, and her love for polar bears led to the creation of Hannah Hayes’ book Betty the Polar Bear where the heroine struggles with self-esteem.
“Holy chutzpah and a bold trust in miracles led Morris and Annie Zeidman to found the Scott Mission in 1941,” says guest Ben Volman.
