Arts Connection for Monday, August 4, 2014 - Jacob Moon - fan.si

The idea for tonight’s show started with the following comment on Facebook: “Wow. Streaming music may be the end of an artist's ability to earn real money from the music he/she makes. The music you love is vulnerable in today's economy, folks.” Jacob Moon (http://www.jacobmoon.com/) made the comment while referring to a blog post which suggested, in today’s music economy, “The Barenaked Ladies would need 9,216 plays of their classic song ‘If I had $1,000,000’ to earn enough royalties to by one box of Kraft Dinner” or 9.8 billion plays to earn the band members the one million dollars they were singing about. Jacob, who has been performing and marketing himself as a one-man band for most of his adult life, talks about the changes in the music industry, how it affects his bottom line and a new way of supporting artists.
