Tonight’s guest was inspired to launch his own arts magazine during his fourth year at Tyndale University College. Conor Sweetman, who is now pursuing his degree in England, launched Ekstasis (http://www.ekstasismagazine.com/) in August 2016. The magazine explores the concepts of art, beauty and culture through content that includes reviews, essays, photography and poetry.

Arts Connection for Monday, February 13, 2017 - Sylvia Woods - "Floriography" exhibit at Kitchener Public Library

Research into the symbolic meaning of fruit, flowers and insects used in art during the Renaissance and the Victorian Tussie Mussie eras gave tonight’s guest the inspiration for her paintings. Guelph artist Sylvia Woods recently opened the exhibit titled “Floriography” – a collection of these floral paintings – at the Kitchener Public Library’s Central location.

Now in its 7th year, the Winnipeg Real to Reel Film Festival which features full-length feature films, documentaries and short films that are “cool, clean and compelling.” Author and filmmaker Paul Boge started the festival and he’s on the  phone with us from Winnipeg to talk to us about it.

Tonight’s guest combines a love for words, in the short stories she writes, and an ability to illustrate them with the images she creates. One of author and illustrator Ramona Furst’s (http://ramonafurst.com/default.aspx) latest projects was to provide the illustrations for Alberta author Bobbi Junior’s book When the Bough Breaks.
